On the Verge is an unusual platformer about searching for meaning, mental balance, trying to make sense of the questions of the universe and answering the question “Where did we come from?”.

The game was created specifically for Gamedev.js Jam 2025
We are a young married couple of teachers. This game and participation in GameJAM is our first “public” experience.

No AI was used in the creation of the game. All music and assets, as well as the idea itself are thought up and created independently, especially for Gamedev.js Jam 2025 on the theme of balance.

Do you get “Game Over” too often?

Most likely you ran past the training without paying attention to the prompts.

Try starting the game and paying attention to the animated blocks at the very beginning. They say, “You stand here, listen to the music, you wait a long time, you die”. The sounds are different on the two halves of the screen, which means you need to change your position often enough and run from side to side to avoid catching Game Over.

The second block gives another clue. The rule of halves is retained. On the left half, the white blocks are marked with skulls - this means you can't step on them. On the right half, black blocks are marked with skulls. You have probably already understood the logic.

In one of the screenshots in the game description there are both of these hints that reveal the main rules of the game!

We wish you an exciting game without endless Game Over!

I have to admit I'm intrigued!  But I think it could give a little more guidance as to what you should be doing.  Once I got to what I think is the third part (where it says "collect experience stars"), I...got a whole lot of Game Over.  I think I missed something basic about what you can or can't pass through.

Good afternoon, very happy to hear from you!

Yes, the intrigue is in the rules to understand. The first two parts of the first level give hints: the first block tells you that the soundtrack says something, the second block shows where and which blocks are dangerous and which are not. We hope that with these instructions you will be able to solve the riddle)
